Cafe Standards in Daily Life: American Hydroformers

CAFE standards

Those who work outside very specific industries, such as the hydroforming or automotive industries, probably do not give much thought to current CAFE standards. In fact, many of them might not even be familiar with the term. Nevertheless, CAFE standards do impact their lives in specific ways.

First, because CAFE standards have led to a considerable lightening of automobile frames over the years, they have directly influenced the amount of fuel consumption. Since lower fuel consumption leads to lower shipping costs, we can rightly say that these standards have lowered consumer costs.

According to research by the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, the effects will prove even more dramatic in the days to come.

The car rule for model years 2017 to 2025 is projected to cut annual U.S. oil imports by an additional 6 percent by 2025 from what would happen otherwise, or 400,000 barrels per day…oil imports are expected to decline by more than 2 million barrels per day by 2025.

Not only have CAFE standards influenced consumer cost through lowering fuel consumption, but they have also improved the environment by lowering CO2 emissions. Because lower emissions means a slowing of climate change, it could be argued that the current standards are literally making the world a better place.
